WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT SQUAD WIN LATEST PRE-SEASON FIXTURE

A report on Sunday's action

20 August 2023

The Northampton Town Women Development squad won 5-1 away to Leamington Lions in a pre-season friendly on Sunday afternoon.

The Cobblers started on the front foot and took an early lead when a corner was headed on by Alex Bartlett and Ellie Barker finished from close range.

Barker doubled her tally and the advantage soon after when she slotted home from Georgia Tear’s perfectly-weighted pass, the midfielder having won the ball on the edge of the area.

A free-flowing move from one side of the pitch to the other a few minutes later culminated in Georgia Gale finding Barker with a killer pass, allowing the striker to complete a first-half hat-trick.

Bartlett recorded her second assist as the Cobblers made it four on the half-an-hour mark, keeping the ball alive out wide and whipping in a cross that Illana Stelfox guided past the ‘keeper first-time.

The visitors made a slow start to the second period and conceded when their opponents found the back of the net from the edge of the box, but they added a fifth through Abbie Reboul less than five minutes later.

The forward, who was named as Player of the Match, skilfully dribbled past a defender and calmly slotted into the bottom corner to secure a dominant victory.

Starting XI: Smith, Carter, Rylance, Koolen, Speed, Bartlett, Gale, Tear, Barker, Stelfox, Reboul
Substitutes: Cox, Finn, Braddock, de Villiers
