SHANE GODDARD PLEASED WITH YOUTH TEAM'S PERFORMANCE

Reaction to this weekend's EFL Youth Alliance action

16 October 2022

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was pleased with his side’s performance as they drew 0-0 away to Southend United in the EFL Youth Alliance League South East on Saturday morning.

The young Cobblers are unbeaten in two games and have kept two consecutive clean sheets.

Goddard believes his side are on the right track.

“We were strong individually and collectively,” he said.

“It was a positive performance and it’s a good point on the road.

“We’ve kept three clean sheets in our six games, and we’re hard to beat when we’re disciplined, resolute and organised.

“We know we’ve got to be more clinical at the other end, but that’s the hardest part of the game.

“I can’t fault the boys’ performance because I’m happy with it.

“We finished the game with three Under 16s on the pitch who all held their own, and I’m really pleased with the positive progress the group has made as a whole.

“We back ourselves to get a good result against anybody when we play as well as we did today and in our last game, and we’re looking for more of the same.”

The youth team travel to Luton Town a week on Tuesday.
