The new Planet League season is upon us!
The new 5 week season is now under way, where pupils, teachers and families can score Climate Action Goals for the Northampton Town Community Trust and their school once again.
Building on previous successes where Northampton Town have finished 2nd twice in the competition and won the impact award which has led to the Northampton Town Community Trust featuring in a recent paper for the measurement of Carbon Footprint in football clubs called Scope F with the Cobblers being named the most impactful club in the country since the project started.
In the recent competitions two of our local schools have benefited from cash prizes with Stanwick Primary winning £1,000 during the Schools vs Climate Change tournament and Irthlingbrough Juniors winning £500 in the CUP26 (COP26 Themed) tournament. Here is a video below featuring their engagement.
We need Cobblers fans and friends and family members to sign up for free and to follow the link to planetleague.co.uk and select Northampton Town as their chosen team to represent, it is very important they pick their local team. You can then select the county in which the school is and then your school itself.
Please note you don't have to select a school if you are doing this yourself.
All goals scored by completing the activities will not only help the Northampton Town Community Trust and the club in its quest to become Planet League champions but also reduce everyone's carbon footprint and increase sustainability.
Following the success of the CUP26 Tournament, the Government & Department for Education has written a new sustainability and climate change strategy for schools here below. Schools may wish to use their engagement in Planet League to support this and their school development plan. If you have children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren etc you can all help towards their schools goals!
Families can earn weekly prizes from Planet League for completing certain challenges which have previously been in the form of Go APe, Odeon, Pizza Express and Nandos vouchers.
The Community Trust will also be giving out weekly prizes to the highest-scoring family in Northamptonshire ranging from kit, tickets, player visits, and also visits from Clarence the Dragon.
Finally, we will be hosting a Sustainability Green Day at the stadium for the fixture against Newport County on Saturday 29th October where there will be lots of activities for our fans to engage in around sustainability, and meet local organisations sharing information on the local communities' impact on climate change reduction.
We will also be presenting the previous school winners Stanwick Primary on the pitch before the game to inspire fans, children, and schools to be the next winners. Further information about the game and event will follow shortly.
