Louis Appere and Ben Fox came into the Cobblers side for the trip to fellow promotion contenders Leyton Orient. Top goalscorer Sam Hoskins and Josh Eppiah both missed out through injury in a blow to boss Jon Brady but Shaun McWilliams was back on the bench following a spell on the sidelines. Goalkeeper Jonny Maxted was absent due to family reasons.
Ali Koiki shot just wide from the edge of the area and Lawrence Vigouroux saved from Marc Leonard in a bright start from the Cobblers
Paul Smyth volleyed over from 30-yards and Aaron Drinan dragged a shot wide as Orient started to grow into the contest but with half an hour played the score remained goalless.
Mitch Pinnock saw a shot deflected over and Lee Burge saved a Tom James free kick with Dan Happe heading onto the crossbar from the resultant corner in the closest either side had come to making the breakthrough in the first half.
Referee Ollie Yates was quick to produce what looked a harsh red card for Ben Fox just three minutes into the second half, the Cobblers down to ten men with Fox penalised following a challenge on Craig Clay.
A Cobblers counter-attack lead to Vigouroux making a good save from Pinnock while Orient, looking to make the most of their extra man, tried to prize an opening, Rob Hunt having a shot blocked by Harvey Lintott and Smyth drawing a good save from Burge.
Shaun McWilliams and Akin Odimayo came on for the final ten minutes, replacing Leonard and Lintott. Ryan Haynes then replaced the hard working Kieron Bowie in the Cobblers third change with Max Dyche coming on for Appere in stoppage time.
The Cobblers ten men had shown great resilience in the second half and Jon Brady’s side managed to see the game out for a thoroughly hard fought and well-earned point.
