NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN MAKE FA CUP PROGRESS

A report on Sunday's action

13 November 2022

Northampton Town Women progressed to the second round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup with a 6-2 win at home to Dronfield Town on Sunday afternoon.

Abbie Reboul and Kim Farrow scored two each, whilst Alex Dicks and Gracie Williams scored the Cobblers’ other goals as they overcame their East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One Central opponents.

It took just 15 seconds for Northampton to open the scoring, Reboul running through on goal and finding the bottom corner with a composed finish.

Farrow converted Dicks’ lay-off from close range to double the Cobblers’ lead five minutes later.

It was three within a minute, Dicks finding the top corner with a great strike to mark her 50th first team appearance with a goal.

Reboul and Dicks both had chances to double their tallies either side of the half-an-hour mark, the former sending a half-volley from the edge of the area narrowly wide before the latter was denied by Rebecca Hill’s diving one-on-one save.

Despite Northampton’s dominance, the visitors pulled a goal back before the break when captain Kirsty Unwin’s long-range free-kick beat Jo Daniel and bounced into the empty net.

And they added a second shortly after the restart, Carly Gill sending Daniel the wrong way from the penalty spot following a shove in the box.

But the Dronfield fightback was put to an end before the hour, Reboul getting in behind and slotting past Hill at the near post for her second.

Farrow also made it a brace for herself soon after, turning Abbie Brewin’s low cross home at the far post.

The Cobblers were inches away from a sixth a few minutes later, but substitute Williams was unable to reach Beth Artemiou’s square ball after the midfielder rounded ‘keeper Hill.

Williams did get on the scoresheet late on, arriving at the back post to tap in from fellow sub Mia Richards’ ball across goal.

There is more cup action for Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams’ side next week. They host Bugbrooke St. Michaels in the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup second round, the side they knocked out of the competition with a 7-0 win last season.
