Miguel Ngwa scored for AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder started alongside fellow Northampton Town youngster Jack Connor as their loan side lost 2-1 away to Royston Town in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.
Both were heavily involved in the first half, the former causing problems for the hosts’ defence with a number of dribbles and crosses and the latter heading just over before seeing a flick spectacularly denied by the opposition ‘keeper.
Diamonds were a goal down at the break, but Ngwa cut inside and found the bottom corner with a low finish on the hour mark to get them back on level terms.
Forward Connor was replaced midway through the second period, and their team conceded a late winner from the penalty spot.
Midfielder Peter Abimbola, who has joined his Cobblers teammates on loan at Hayden Road, was an unused substitute at the weekend.
