LOAN WATCH

A look at the weekend action for our young players out on loan

26 November 2022

Northampton Town loanee Liam Cross made his debut for Leamington on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder joined the Brakes for a month on Thursday, and his side lost 2-0 at home to Peterborough Sports in the Vanarama National League North at the weekend.

He was named as a substitute, came off the bench on the hour mark and sent a long-range drive just wide 10 minutes later as the Brakes were unable to respond to the two-goal deficit.

Elsewhere, two of the Cobblers’ first year professionals were involved in AFC Rushden and Diamonds colours.

Peter Abimbola and Jack Connor were in action as their side lost 3-1 away to Rushall Olympic in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, the former scoring the Diamonds’ goal.

The fixture was the team’s first under interim manager Matt Vernon following the sacking of Richard Maxwell, who became the second boss to leave the club this season.

The young Cobblers pair both started, Abimbola equalising for his side midway through the first half with a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

The Diamonds’ opponents restored and doubled their lead to secure all three points in the second period. The midfielder rattled the post from range in added time but there was too little time left for his team to mount a comeback.

Forward Connor was substituted just before the hour.

There was a more positive result for Under 18s captain Dylan Hill’s work experience side.

The midfielder made his second appearance for Wellingborough Town, who came from two goals behind to earn an extraordinary 7-5 win at home to GNG Oadby Town in the uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division South.
