More silverware for club's female football programme

24 May 2022

The Northampton Town Women Development squad won 3-0 against Moulton Ladies in the NTFA Women’s Cup final at Compton Park on Tuesday night.

The Cobblers’ goals came from Gracie Williams, Cesca Partridge and an own goal on a trophy-winning night at the home of Cogenhoe United.

The tie got off to an even start. Moulton were inches away from taking the lead on the quarter-of-an-hour mark, but Sophie Rylance cleared off the line after Izzy McDonald was beaten one-on-one.

Northampton grew into the game and hit the woodwork twice either side of half-an-hour. Partridge’s half-volley hit the far post before Chloe Murphy’s audacious flick was denied by the crossbar.

Their control was rewarded five minutes before the break when Williams hooked home from the edge of the box, and Partridge doubled the lead on the stroke of half time with a lofted finish over the goalkeeper.

The advantage was extended to three on the hour when substitute Macy Crick’s low cross was sliced by a defender and went in off both posts.

Partridge was played in over the top of the defence as the Cobblers looked to add to their tally 10 minutes later, but her volley was beaten away by the goalkeeper.

Northampton’s three-goal lead was rarely threatened late on as they saw out a deserved final win.
