JOINT MANAGERS DELIGHTED AFTER WOMEN COMPLETE 'INVINCIBLE' SEASON

Reaction to the final game of the season for Northampton Town Women

21 May 2022

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield were proud of Northampton Town Women as they ended their East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division campaign unbeaten.

The Cobblers completed their season with a 3-0 win away to Notts County on Thursday night thanks to goals from Alex Dicks, Leah Cudone and Charlie Cooper.

Barry believes his side’s end of season success is down to a tactical switch at the break.

“It was a game of two halves,” he said.

“The first half was even but we changed things at half time.

“We made an instant impact in the second half and upped our intensity.

“When we do reach that intensity, we’re ruthless and we finish these games off.

“We maintained our standards and have finished the season with a good feeling.”

Oldfield praised his team for completing an ‘invincible’ season.

“Ending the season unbeaten is something that we only turned our focus to when we won the league,” he added.

“The girls have remained focussed and maintained their intensity and standards, as Lou mentioned.

“It’s something we’re very proud of because it’s very rare in football at any level.

“We can look back on it and take the momentum from it into next season.”
