Northampton Town ended the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division season unbeaten with a 3-0 win away to Notts County on Thursday night.

Alex Dicks, Leah Cudone and Charlie Cooper scored the Cobblers’ goals as an incredibly successful season came to an end.

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made six changes to the team that beat Leicester City last week.

One of those changes, Abbie Brewin, was forced off through injury early on in a scrappy start to the game.

The hosts were the first team to come close to an opener as a long-range free-kick landed on the roof of the net midway through the opening period.

The Cobblers grew into the game with Dicks and Cudone both forcing the goalkeeper into saves from the edge of the area.

The best opportunity of a goalless first half fell to the away side on the stroke of half time, Favour Omenazu dragging an effort just wide from Fay Noble’s ball over the top of the defence.

The deadlock was broken within 60 seconds of the restart as Dicks smashed home Cudone’s low ball across goal from close range.

Substitute Cooper almost doubled the Cobblers’ lead before the hour, driving towards goal and shooting wide from the edge of the box.

Cudone did double the advantage with 20 minutes to go when her shot looped over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net from 40 yards.

Cooper made it three soon after, bearing down on goal and firing home to make sure her side’s promotion-winning campaign ended with three points.

Barry and Oldfield’s side will compete in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands next season.
