Work taking place to prepare pitch for new season

30 May 2022

The summer renovation work is now under way on the Sixfields pitch.

After a busy week of community football, the groundstaff are now busy working on the pitch ahead of next season which starts on the earlier date of July 30th.

Groundsman James Boddington talked us through the work that is taking place this summer.

"The pitch underwent a major renovation last summer so we are coming to the end of the first season of this particular pitch and we felt it looked in great condition, even at the end of the season," he said.

"The work this summer is to scarify to remove the debris that has collected, we will sand the pitch to fill in any gaps that may have developed.

"The next stage will be to overseed and fertilise, then the pitch will be watered and given time and space to grow.

"As well as getting the main stadium pitch ready for the new season the club has spent a lot of money on the training pitches at Moulton and we are working to get them ready for the start of pre-season in late June.

"As for the main pitch at Sixfields, we need 6 weeks for the work, which we just about have. As always it is a race against time and the early start to next season is a challenge for us but we hope to have the pitch ready to play on by mid-July."
