The male and female Northampton Town Football and Education Programme sides have both reached their respective NFYL Trophy finals this season.
The South Premier Division squad face the JMA Reading Shadow squad at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Monday 16th May, whilst the South Championship Women squad take on Wath Academy at the Hawthorns on Wednesday 18th May. This is a magnificent achievement for both teams and something the Programme can be proud of.
The female squad beat three opponents from the South Premier Women, the top division in the NFYL, on the way to the final. They first secured a dominant win away to Norwich City. They then knocked out USP Storm with four goals in the first half to reach the semi-finals. Finally, they took their chances in a close semi-final at home to top division leaders AFC Sudbury to secure a place in the final.
The male squad began the competition with a thrilling comeback win at home to Bradford City from the North Premier Division. They came from three goals down at half time to progress in extra time. They hosted Sheffield United in the next round, winning comfortably in the second half after a hard-fought opening period. They successfully overcame a well-organised Everton team in Merseyside in the quarter-finals, and dominated North West Premier Division side Leeds United at home to book their spot in the final.
Special mention to Alex Dicks and Eddie Panter, who are the Cobblers’ top goalscorers in the competition, Dicks with 10 and Panter with eight. All FEP staff are proud of the players involved and we wish them all the best in their finals.
