SHANE GODDARD PRAISES YOUTH TEAM'S CHARACTER AS UNDER 18S BEAT MK DONS

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action

Coach Shane Goddard says Northampton Town Under 18s 'showed character' in their 1-0 win away to Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday.

Kenny Ndefo scored the young Cobblers’ goal as they recorded a third victory over their opponents this season and a third success in the Merit League.

Speaking after the game, Goddard said: “It was a good, competitive game and I’m pleased with the performance.

“We weren’t in control of possession, but we were more effective with the ball and deserved to win the game based on the chances created.

“We played some good football and it’s a positive result for us.

“The boys showed character to respond to losing last week.

“Wins bring confidence and I’m happy with the direction we’re going in.

“Another pleasing thing is that we put out a young side today.

“That means those players can start to understand our principles and prepare for when they come into the squad on a full-time basis.”

The youth team host Forest Green Rovers at the midpoint of their Merit League campaign next week.
