Northampton Town's youth team were beaten 1-0 by Sutton United in an EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division fixture at Moulton College on Saturday morning.
"This was a good performance from the boys but we just came out on the wrong end of the scoreline in a tight game," said coach Shane Goddard.
"We created some good chances, we hit the bar twice, we had a goal disallowed and their keeper made some good saves.
"A couple of weeks ago we were saying we won the game but we were disappointed with our performance, in this game we saw the other side of the coin in terms of a good performance, some good patterns of play but we didn't quite get the result we wanted.
"The players can be really pleased with a lot of what they did, it just didn't quite fall for us in front of goal."
