FOOTBALL & EDUCATION PROGRAMME CEFA CENTRAL 4 SQUAD BEAT WALSALL

A report on Wednesday's action

30 March 2022

The Northampton Town Football & Education programme CEFA Central 4 squad took on Walsall at Moulton on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cobblers took the lead in the third minute in unusual circumstances. Bradley Cheshire was away before a brilliant tackle halted his progress. However the ball completely stopped and Cheshire got up and hit the ball into the net past a bewildered keeper.

The lead was doubled on six minutes. Sonny Reeves dinked the ball into the back post where Max Hust confidently sidefooted home.

Bradley Cheshire added his second goal on 24 minutes. He played a great through ball to Bailey Giles who squared a pass back to him for an easy tap-in.

Walsall pulled a goal back on the half hour mark and reduced the deficit to 3-2 from the penalty spot on 32 minutes.

Cheshire completed his hat-trick as a pulsating first half continued, and there was still time for him to turn provider just before the interval, crossing for Archie O'Donnell to head home.

O'Donnell curled home a sixth for the Cobblers on 57 minutes, and while the second half couldn't quite live up to the dramatic nature of the first, the Cobblers saw the game out for a 6-2 win.

Cobblers: Kai Hanley, Nathan Fitzgerald, Niall Donaghy, Alfie Leivars, Charlie Clarke, Sonny Reeves, Bailey Giles, Max Hust, Kenny Kwarteng, Jahdai Smith, Bradley Cheshire
