FANS REPRESENTATIVE TOM CLIFFE ON THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS HE IS ASKED, GETTING IN TOUCH AND MORE

An update from the democratically elected supporters representative

10 June 2022

The democratically elected supporters representative, Tom Cliffe, has been talking about some of the most common questions that come his way.

Tom is in regular communication with fans, both at home and away games, travelling to and from matches, via his regular Talk Cobblers sessions or on email, and he explained some of the topics he is asked about most regularly.

"It has been a busy time with the end of the season," he said.

"We have had some long conversations travelling to and from games, particularly on the train coming back from Barrow, and one of the most common topics is about the structure of the board meetings we have at the club.

"In terms of formal meetings, we don't sit down four times a year or anything like that, it is about talking constantly and staying in touch all the time. There is nothing off limits or nothing that I can't discuss.

"We are in constant communication as a group both to discuss matters and to have some of my questions answered. If a question comes in to me and I don't know the answer I can just reach out to someone at the club and get the answer that I can feed back. I am always amazed at how quickly the answers come back!

"Other questions I have had are about the matchday experience. How can we help reduce the queues at kiosks at busy games and we saw some small steps made towards the end of the season such as the outside bar at Carr's Bar and that is the feedback I pass to the club. It is about moving things forward and considering ideas and taking things on board when we can.

"If I get a direct question I will reply directly to that supporter and I think that direct response is important as that person has taken the trouble to contact us in the first place. We might not always agree on answers but I will always give an answer.

"Something I want to do more of next season is to provide a regular monthly video update and that is what we will be looking to do.

"I have always said I can't represent every fan all the while but one of the issues I have been talking to supporters about is safe standing. Some are in favour but some are not and some have contacted me to say that they would not renew a season ticket if safe standing came in. It is all about hearing all opinions and listening to them, especially those who are not as loud or as active on social media as others and that is important.

"If any supporter has any questions or concerns I would be pleased to hear from them, either at a game next season, on email or via a Talk Cobblers session next season.

"The best way to contact me via email is at cliffetom@hotmail.com, I check that every other day and I would like to hear feedback from fans on any subject they wish to contact me about. I have always said, while I will read social media it is not always the best platform for debate in my opinion.

"If you have a question or an opinion you would like to share with me, please drop me a line and we can arrange to have a conversation."
