New midfielder talking about his move to Sixfields

18 June 2022

Midfielder Ben Fox says the club's reputation for improving players played a big part in his decision to sign for Northampton Town.

Fox, who was named player of the match in the National League promotion final a couple of weeks ago, has been talking about his decision to make the move to Northampton Town

Asked why Sixfields was his chosen destination, Fox said:

"It was the size of the club, the way last season played out, the manager and the staff who are here and this feels right for me.

"I think this is a forward thinking club going in the right direction and that was appealing to me.

"I followed what happened last season and it was a crazy end to the season but that is how football works and it is in the past. Now it is a fresh season and I am a fresh face and I know the manager is ready to go again."

Fox played a key role in Grimsby's dramatic promotion at the end of last season in the National League play offs, and he reflected on those experiences.

"The way we got promoted as Grimsby was incredible," he said.

"We managed to get promoted which was fantastic and I am so delighted for everyone at Grimsby that they are back in the EFL but this move was something I could not turn down to help me progress my career.

"Hopefully I can bring some of my experience to the dressing room here. I want to be a positive impact on the team and the club and if I can use my experience to help with that then I will."

Fox said that Jon Brady's template for the side and how he will fit in to the style of play also appealed.

"I love to play on the front foot with energy and to influence the game. Work rate and energy are my strengths and I just want to do well for the team.

"From my chats with the manager I hope I fit the profile and the template here. That was music to my ears when he said what he was looking for and I want to be as successful as I can be here."
