Northampton Town Women lost 5-0 at home to Milton Keynes Dons in their fourth pre-season friendly on Sunday.
The game was relatively even despite the scoreline, with higher-level MK Dons making the most of their chances.
The Cobblers’ third tier opponents took an early lead when a cross deflected into the path of an attacker who tapped in from close range.
The visitors doubled their advantage before the 10 minute mark, a driven effort from just outside the area finding the bottom corner.
The game became scrappy after MK Dons’ quick start, the next notable action coming soon after the break when a forward drove into the box and finished to make it three.
Holly Mayfield, who had replaced Jo Daniel in the Cobblers goal at half-time, made a good one-on-one save to deny the visitors a fourth on the hour mark.
The hosts’ best opportunity of the match fell to Alex Dicks a few minutes later, but she side-footed wide after being played in over the top of the defence.
MK Dons made sure of their win with two goals in three minutes late on, an attacker hooking home at the back post and another firing across goal into the bottom corner.
Josh Oldfield’s side travel to FA Women’s National League Division One South East outfit Cambridge United in their penultimate pre-season fixture next week.
