AKIN ODIMAYO SIGNS FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN

Defender signs from Swindon Town after two clubs agree undisclosed compensation package

2 July 2022

Northampton Town have signed defender Akin Odimayo from Swindon Town after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed compensation package.

The 22 year old Odimayo arrives at Sixfields on a 2 year contract having made 76 appearances for the County Ground outfit over the last two seasons.

Odimayo started his career at Reading, playing one first team game before making the move to Swindon Town in the summer of 2020.

In his first season he was voted the supporters player of the season, playing 30 times in Sky Bet League 1.

He signed a new contract at Swindon in the summer of 2021 and played 42 times in all competitions in 2021/22 as the Robins made the League 2 play offs.

"Akin is a player who can play anywhere across the back," said manager Jon Brady.

"He has a good pedigree and he is a player who is a good age with the potential to develop and improve even further.

"He is comfortable playing in a back four or a five and that is important.

"He fits the profile of player we are after. He is young, hungry and ambitious and he has already played a lot of football either in League 1 or at the top end of League 2 and we are particularly pleased to welcome him to Sixfields as we know there was interest in his services elsewhere.

"He is under 24 and was offered a new deal at Swindon so we have agreed a compensation package, but he is another of our targets who we are delighted to bring to the club.

"Akin is a really strong addition to our defensive unit."

A big thank you to My Continuum who will be Akin's player sponsor for the 2022/23 season.
