Northampton Town progressed to the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup semi finals with a 7-0 win away to Bugbrooke St Michaels on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Dicks scored a hat-trick and Leah Cudone netted twice, whilst Georgia Tear and new signing Zoe Boote bagged the Cobblers’ other goals.

Boote was one of eight changes to the team that knocked Sleaford Town out of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Cup last week. Eden Brown returned to and captained the side.

The visitors dominated the tie, but their opponents almost took a shock lead when they hit the post early on.

The Cobblers made the breakthrough midway through the first half, Dicks curling into the far corner.

The lead remained one until early in the second period when half time substitute Tear finished from Brown’s forward pass.

Two substitutes combined on the hour mark, Fay Noble playing through Cudone who rounded the goalkeeper and fired into the roof of the net.

Noble sent Boote in on goal a few minutes later, and the debutant slotted a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

Noble was involved again with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, skilfully beating three players and playing the ball to Dicks. The striker found Cudone, who beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.

The Cobblers were left wondering how they hadn’t made it six soon after, when Dicks hit the crossbar from long range, Alex Bartlett hit the post following-up and Cudone was denied by the other post on the rebound.

It was eventually six with just over five minutes to go, Noble setting up Dicks who fired into the bottom corner.

Dicks completed her hat-trick and rounded off the scoring in the final minute of normal time when she placed home from Bartlett’s through ball.

Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield’s side return to East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division action next week when they travel to Rotherham United.

The Cobblers won the reverse fixture 9-2 in front of over 600 fans at Sixfields Stadium in September.
