Cobblers boss Jon Brady has been speaking about the club’s ongoing recruitment work and why he would rather remain patient than bolster squad numbers just for the sake of it.
“We’ve had some real near misses on a couple of players that we were very close to and we are continuing to work very hard to improve the squad and to try and give ourselves that cutting edge at the top end of the pitch.,” he said.
“I’m very keen for us to get the right fit, that means players who fit our plans and our blueprint and I’m not just going to chase someone who would just paper over the cracks.
“I’m going to make sure we look after our football club and do the right thing.
"Too often I have seen managers load up in January on players and that affects things not just for the rest of that season but moving forwards in to next season and I won't do that.
“I’ve got a group who are working extremely hard and I will only add to that group with players who I believe are the right fit for this football club and fit our template.
“We’ve put ourselves in a great position and I'm more than happy to work with this group rather than just getting a player in that doesn’t fit with what we want and isn’t going to improve us.
“I’ve seen that done before at other clubs and I’m not going to do that.”
