Jon Brady says the squad will have benefitted from a full week on the training ground as the Cobblers prepare to welcome Crawley Town to Sixfields on Saturday.
“The players are getting fitter and fitter after a mixed 21 days,” he said.
“We are getting more consistency in training and in terms of signings and adding to the squad we are constantly looking and speaking to clubs and agents.
“We will only bring a player in if we feel they are going to enhance us and if they are within our all-round remit in terms of what we need.
“That might be a loan or a permanent signing and we have got to be open to anything. Covid is playing a part as well because clubs want to keep big squads and I think it’s going to be a tough window for everyone. It might mean things don't really happen until later in the month."
