FOOTBALL & EDUCATION PROGRAMME SOUTH CENTRAL CHAMPIONSHIP SQUAD RECORD VICTORY

A report on Wednesday's action

26 January 2022

The Northampton Town Football and Education Programme South Central Championship squad won 3-1 at home to divisional rivals Wycombe Wanderers in the NFYL Trophy on Wednesday.

Jonny Harris scored twice and Archie O’Donnell netted the Cobblers’ other goal as they extended their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions.

The hosts started brightly, hitting the frame of the goal twice inside seven minutes.

Elliot Balchin-Love headed against the post from Callum Law’s corner, and Harris was denied by the woodwork after a goalmouth scramble.

However, it was Wycombe who would open the scoring against the run of play after nine minutes when an attacker got in behind and smashed home.

Harris equalised for the Cobblers midway through the first half, rising highest to head into the top corner from James Lewis’ corner.

He doubled his tally and turned the game around before the hour, turning and finishing from Aiden Bell’s cross.

Tyrun Primus came close to a Cobblers third with 20 minutes to go, but he was denied by the goalkeeper from Balchin-Love’s ball in.

The miss did not matter in the end, as late substitute O’Donnell secured his side’s passage into the next round with an added time free kick that went through a crowd of bodies and beat the goalkeeper.

Tom Ash’s side travel to Queens Park Rangers next week.

Cobblers: Brad Timlin, Aiden Bell, Max Hust, Callum Law, Alfie Leivars, Nico Mountford-Hill, Elliot Balchin-Love, James Lewis, Jonny Harris, Sonny Reeves, Tyrun Primus
Substitute: Archie O'Donnell
