NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN STAY TOP OF TABLE AFTER CHESTERFIELD DRAW

A report on Sunday's action

13 February 2022

The Northampton Town Women picked up a point from a 2-2 draw away at Chesterfield on Sunday in a battle of two sides aiming for promotion from the East Midlands Women's Regional Football League.

The Cobblers started well and took the lead on 17 minutes. Emma Billenness made progress down the left wing, her cross was fumbled by the keeper and Alex Dicks was there to score.

Dicks was close to a second goal early in the second half when her header from a Billenness came back off the post but she didn't have to wait long to double the advantage when she did score her second of the afternoon when she fired home a loose ball inside the area on 53 minutes.

The hosts pulled a goal back just past the hour mark with a free kick and they drew level in the fourth minute of added time to ensure the points were shared.

The draw keeps the Cobblers top and their hosts in second place.
