Jon Brady was upbeat as he reflected on Saturday’s goalless draw with Tranmere Rovers.
The result saw the Cobblers stretch both the unbeaten run to seven league games and the gap to fourth place to five points.
“We wanted to get the three points today but we came up against a very resilient Tranmere side,” he said.
“We are seven unbeaten now in the league but we wanted to win today. They are a side that don’t concede many goals and they have got two very good centre halves.
“We want to be purposeful with our possession, we could have maybe been a bit better in certain moments but you have to give Tranmere credit for the way they defended. They were hard to break down and we just didn’t quite make the best of the moments we had.
“We went for the win in the end and I put a lot of attackers on but we couldn’t quite find that goal.
“It didn’t quite fall for us today but the players worked extremely hard. We wanted to put on a show for the supporters today, we weren’t quite able to do that but this is a tough league and its another point on the board.”
