JOSH OLDFIELD DISAPPOINTED WITH OPENING DAY LOSS

Reaction to Sunday's action for Northampton Town Women

22 August 2022

Northampton Town Women manager Josh Oldfield was disappointed with his side after their first season in the fourth tier began with a 4-1 defeat at home to Wem Town on Sunday.

It was an uncharacteristic performance from the Cobblers, and Oldfield says his side must improve on their opening day showing.

“I’m really disappointed with the performance because we were nowhere near our level and capabilities,” he said.

“You can lose games and think “That was unfortunate and we would have got a different result on another day,” but we weren’t good enough today.

“We made a poor start and that summed up our day, because we didn’t recover from that point.

“We’ve got to go back to the training ground and work hard to turn it around.

“We did a good job of building momentum in pre-season and we have to do that again.

“There’s a lot of work to be done but I’m sure the girls will work hard going into next week.”

Oldfield’s side will look to move on from their opening day setback and put things right when they travel to Leek Town on Sunday.
