Zoe Boote has been confirmed as Northampton Town Women club captain ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The Cobblers begin life in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands (Tier 4) at home to Wem Town next week.
Skipper Boote is ready for the new campaign.
“I’m really excited to have been given the armband and we’ve got a big season ahead,” she said.
“We’ve brought in some really good signings and got a good group as well as a good squad.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do in this league.”
Boote is part of a leadership group alongside experienced teammates Bianca Luttman and Rachael Mumford.
Defender Luttman believes the leadership group is an important aspect of the Northampton team.
“The leadership group play in different positions in different areas of the pitch,” she added.
“We each bring different things which means we cover all bases across the pitch.
“Supporting the team by bouncing off each other allows us to solve problems more easily and effectively.”
One of the group’s key roles is to make sure that the principles set by manager Josh Oldfield are carried out by the squad.
Midfielder Mumford said: “Being part of the leadership group brings a lot of responsibility.
“It’s mainly about being a positive role model and demonstrating what our qualities should be on and off the pitch.
“We also set the standards in training, and we have to show that it’s not just about quality but hard work as well.”
