Northampton Town Women ended pre-season with a 7-1 win at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Sunday.
Kim Farrow and Gemma Whitchurch both scored braces, whilst Favour Omenazu, Alex Dicks and Fay Noble scored the Cobblers’ other goals on a blisteringly hot afternoon at Moulton College.
The hosts took an early lead when Whitchurch dribbled down the left and crossed for strike-partner Farrow, who smashed in from close range.
But the visitors equalised before the 10th minute when a first-time strike from the edge of the area flew into the top corner.
Northampton had the chance to restore their advantage late in the first half after Whitchurch did well to chase a lost cause, round the goalkeeper and draw a foul.
However, the keeper redeemed herself by pushing away the forward’s driven spot-kick.
The Cobblers were quick off the mark at the restart and were two goals in front just two minutes into the second half.
Whitchurch pounced on a loose clearance from the goalkeeper and found the bottom corner from long range before racing onto Ella Bailey’s through ball and slotting home at the near post.
Farrow doubled her tally and extended the lead soon after, converting the rebound after Bailey was denied from close range.
Omenazu added a fifth with 20 minutes left when she rode two challenges in the box and finished with a low shot across goal.
Dicks made it six when she fired a low effort past the keeper with 10 minutes to go, and Noble rounded-off the scoring with a powerful drive into the top corner from range late on.
Josh Oldfield’s side return to Harpole FC next week as they host Wem Town on the opening day of the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands season.
