SHANE GODDARD WANTS UNDER 18S TO FINISH SEASON ON A HIGH

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action

25 April 2022

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard has set his side the challenge of finishing the season on a high after their 1-0 defeat at home to Luton Town in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday.

The game was the young Cobblers’ penultimate fixture of the season.

Goddard believes both teams will be disappointed with their performances.

“I don’t think there was a lot between the teams, and both had to contend with the pitch and wind,” he said.

“Both will probably reflect and think they could have done better.

“They had two half-chances and we also had two half-chances, but they finished one of theirs.

“If we had scored first, we probably would have won the game.

“We have to find ways of being more creative because we’ve not scored enough goals in the second half of the season.

“The positive for us is that we’re a very young group.

“The challenge is to finish on a high against Bristol Rovers next week and start to plan for next year.

“I think we’re in a good place defensively, we just need a little more at the other end of the pitch.”
