Northampton Town Under 18s lost 7-1 away to AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Youth Alliance League on Saturday.

Dons dominated throughout. Early on, Quaine Bartley’s shot was blocked on the line by Josh Tomlinson and Paris Lock’s effort was parried away by Callum Cook.

The hosts opened the scoring after a quarter-of-an-hour, Bartley firing into the bottom corner.

The Cobblers equalised with their only clear opportunity of the match 10 minutes later, when Dylan Hill blocked goalkeeper Michael Allen’s clearance and the ball rolled into the empty net.

AFC Wimbledon regained the lead on the half-an-hour mark, captain Ben Mason scrambling home after Bartley headed against the bar from a corner.

Dons’ control continued after the break. Early in the second period, Cook made an acrobatic save to deny Mason before Morgan Williams doubled the advantage from just inside the area.

David Kawa lofted the ball over Cook and into the net to score a fourth a few minutes later.

Cook made a save but Marcel Campbell converted the rebound for a fifth on the hour mark.

Campbell doubled his tally and made it six moments later, tapping home a cutback at the back post.

The scoring was completed late on when a shot from the edge of the box deflected off the unfortunate Ayo Lekuti and in.

The youth team will look to bounce back from their defeat when they host Gillingham next week.
