The Northampton Town Football and Education Programme NFYL South Championship Women’s squad began their season with an 8-2 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Sophie Taylor and Charlie Cooper scored hat-tricks, and Alex Dicks netted a brace.
The match got off to a frantic start. Spurs took an early lead when Eve Pearson turned in from Kary Manley’s corner.
The hosts made an instant reply, Taylor finishing from close range after Schnell Reid made a save.
Taylor doubled her tally and turned the game on its head two minutes later when she converted from six yards.
Grace Collins-Edwards equalised for the visitors after a quarter-of-an-hour, finding the net with a long-range free kick.
Northampton regained the lead on the half-an-hour mark when Cooper controlled the ball well and dispatched from close range.
Dicks doubled the Cobblers’ advantage late in an exciting first half, dispossessing a defender and slotting into the bottom corner.
Taylor completed her hat-trick on the stroke of half time when she converted from the penalty spot after Cooper was fouled.
The hosts dominated the second period. Cooper scored her second within a minute of the restart, running in on goal and passing into the bottom corner.
Cooper netted her hat-trick when she half-volleyed home from Taylor’s cross on the hour mark, and Dicks cut in from the left and curled into the top corner for her second with 10 minutes remaining.
