NORTHAMPTON TOWN PARTNER WITH HERGAMETOO

Cobblers back the HerGameToo campaign

2 September 2021

Northampton Town are proud to announce that we have partnered with HerGameToo in order to combat sexism within football.

HerGameToo are a group of 12 female football fans who are committed to growing the campaign with the aim of fostering an ethos in football in which women are welcomed and respected equally.

Their aims are to:

  • Create awareness
  • Educate
  • Research
  • Develop a strong sense of community
  • Create regular content to champion women in football (players, staff AND fans)
  • Create strong relationships with clubs
  • Create strong relationships with club trusts and communities
  • Have a presence at football grounds and sports bars to build a more welcoming environment for young girls and women
  • Continue to campaign against sexism in football
  • Continue to campaign against online abuse

Northampton Town will be playing an active role in promoting the work of HerGameToo, there will be posters throughout the ground promoting the HerGameToo movement as well as detailing instructions on how to report any discrimination or abuse. The club will also be showing our support on the big screen on match days as well as them featuring in programmes throughout the season. We will also be working with HerGameToo later in the season when we have our dedicated women and girls match day next year.

Caz May, co-founder of HerGameToo said “We really appreciate the support from Northampton Town to help us tackle the misogyny within football. Any form of discrimination has no place within the game so it's brilliant to see professional clubs like Northampton Town paving the way for change and a better future. We look forward to working together to build a safer and more welcoming environment for all women involved”

Northampton Town Chief Executive, James Whiting said “We are really happy to be announcing this partnership with HerGameToo, as a club we ensure we do everything we can to make sure that everyone who visits Sixfields Stadium can feel happy, safe and secure whilst watching the game. We have a lot of female supporters of all ages and partnering with HerGameToo is important to us. We also encourage anyone who witnesses discriminatory behaviour at Sixfields to report it straight away, we have a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of discrimination and abuse.”
