Northampton Town progressed to the second round of the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup with a 6-1 win away to Kettering Town on Sunday.

Rachael St John Mosse scored a brace and Gracie Williams, Alex Bartlett, Charlie Cooper and Alex Dicks scored the Cobblers’ other goals.

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made three changes from the team that beat Chesterfield last week. Bartlett, Cooper and Beth Artemiou came into the side, and goalkeeper Jo Daniel made her 100th appearance for the club.

The visitors took the lead when Abbie Brewin beat two defenders and her cross was turned home by Williams at the back post.

Another Brewin ball was headed into the bottom corner by Bartlett as the Cobblers doubled their advantage five minutes later.

The Poppies pulled a goal back after half-an-hour when Lucy Hibberd’s long range effort dipped under the crossbar.

However, any hopes of a first half comeback were ended before half time as Cooper turned in the area and shot into the top corner and Dicks beat the goalkeeper with a low shot from outside the box.

St John Mosse added a fifth with just over 20 minutes remaining, converting Rachael Mumford’s cross at the second attempt.

The forward doubled her tally and completed the scoring when she beat the goalkeeper to Bartlett’s cross at the front post.

Barry and Oldfield’s side travel to Tamworth in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup third qualifying round next week.
