Northampton Town Women continued their perfect start to the East Midlands Women’s Regional Premier Division season with a 4-0 win at home to Chesterfield on Sunday.

Leah Cudone scored a brace and captain Eden Brown and Rachael St John Mosse netted the Cobblers’ other goals.

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made four changes to the team that knocked Rise Park Ladies out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup last week. Jo Daniel, Abbie Brewin, Leah Cudone and Georgia Tear came into the squad.

The match was scrappy to begin with, the only two early chances falling to Cudone. She was denied by the goalkeeper from close range before her shot from the edge of the area was pushed wide.

Out of nothing, the game sprung to life when Brown unleashed a 40-yard drive into the top corner on the half-an-hour mark.

The Cobblers came close numerous times before the break, Fay Noble having an effort from the edge of the box held and Gracie Williams volleying over at the front post.

St John Mosse scored a deserved second on the stroke of half time, glancing a header into the far corner from Brown’s wide free kick.

After a slow start to the second half, Daniel was called into action an hour in when she got behind a shot from outside the area.

Cudone made it three from the penalty spot a few minutes later, dispatching into the top corner after St John Mosse was fouled.

Daniel made a great save with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, punching a close range header behind for a corner.

Cudone doubled her tally five minutes later, finishing after being played through by Alex Bartlett and rounding off another good Cobblers performance.

Barry and Oldfield’s side travel to Kettering Town Women in the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup first round next week.
