Northampton Town Women won 7-1 away to Rise Park Ladies in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup second qualifying round on Sunday.

The Cobblers were dominant and progressed to the next stage of the competition thanks to an Alex Dicks brace and other goals from Sara Wait, captain Eden Brown, Abbie Reboul and substitutes Georgia Tear and Leah Cudone.

Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made five changes to the team that beat Rotherham United at Sixfields last week. Isobel McDonald, Charlie Cooper, Gracie Williams, Reboul and Dicks replaced Jo Daniel, Emma Billenness, Abbie Brewin, Cudone and Tear in the lineup.

The visitors took an early lead when Wait followed up from close range after a header hit the post.

Dicks doubled the advantage 10 minutes later, rounding Rise Park goalkeeper Ashleigh Hind and smashing into the empty net.

The forward added her second soon after, firing home after being played in by Reboul.

Brown made it four before the break when she tapped in at the back post from a low cross.

Reboul scored a fifth on the hour mark, finding the top corner after Dicks found her in space.

Dicks assisted another a few minutes later, crossing to the back post where Tear nodded home.

Rise Park pulled a goal back with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Danielle Sanderson converted the rebound after McDonald saved Sarah Richardson’s penalty.

However, any hopes of an unlikely comeback were dashed less than a minute later as Cudone finished from the edge of the box after a shot was blocked.

Barry and Oldfield’s side return to East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division action when they host Chesterfield next week.
