The Northampton Town Football and Education Programme CEFAL Central 4 squad won 5-0 at home to Birmingham City ‘C’ on Wednesday.
Jahdai Smith and Fjord Nickels scored braces, and Brandon Ferris scored the Cobblers’ other goal.
The hosts opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Smith smashed home from close range.
Birmingham had opportunities to equalise midway through the half, but Kelvin Kwarteng saved well from long range before a curled shot went just wide.
Kelvin Kwarteng was called into action again a few minutes later when he held a half-volley from the edge of the area.
Smith doubled his tally on the half-an-hour mark, converting after James Lewis hit the post.
Lewis was denied by the woodwork again, moments before being fouled in the area. Ferris sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with the resulting penalty to make it three before the break.
Neither side really got going in the second half, the first chance falling to Birmingham when an effort from a tight angle went over 10 minutes in.
Nickels scored the Cobblers’ fourth after the hour when he ran through on goal and slotted the ball into the far corner.
The winger fired over and Smith was denied a hat-trick by a good reaction save as Northampton looked to increase their advantage late on.
Nickels added his second and made sure of a Cobblers win in injury time as Francis Banks’ side continued their perfect start to the season.
They travel to Aston Villa ‘A’ in the Men’s Cup in a fortnight.
