Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was ‘disappointed to come away with a defeat’ as his side lost 1-0 away to Cambridge United in the EFL Youth Alliance League South East on Saturday.
It was a scrappy game in cold, wet conditions, and there were few chances throughout.
Speaking after the match, Goddard said: “It was a competitive game with a senior feel in horrendous conditions.
“We had two openings in the first half which we needed to capitalise on with more composure.
“Both teams coped with the conditions well and they didn’t decide the game - it was even and decided by a lapse in concentration.
“We were too deep when pressing, we allowed them to travel too far with the ball, they spun us and it was a good strike.
“It was exactly what both teams needed in terms of learning, and both had good spells, but we’re disappointed to come away with a defeat.”
