Northampton Town Under 18s lost 5-2 away to Luton Town in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup regional semi final on Saturday.

Jack Connor and Miguel Ngwa scored the young Cobblers’ goals.

Coach Shane Goddard made two changes to the team that knocked Stockport County out of the FA Youth Cup in the week.

Brad Smith-Howes and Kai O’Keeffe came into the side, replacing Reece Irwin and Tommy Curry.

Luton opened the scoring 11 minutes in when Josh Allen passed the ball into the bottom corner after being found by Jake Burger.

The Hatters won a penalty which Allen slotted into the bottom left to double his tally 12 minutes later.

Allen completed his hat-trick a quarter-of-an-hour later, finding the back of the net with an effort across goal.

Connor pulled a goal back in first half added time, nodding home from close range after Luton failed to clear a Smith-Howes corner.

Ed McJannet restored the hosts’ three-goal lead with a low strike just over 20 minutes from time, and Allen added his fourth and a Luton fifth late on.

Ngwa scored an excellent consolation in injury time, a looping volley from 25 yards.

The youth team return to EFL Youth Alliance League South East action when they travel to Cambridge United next week.

Goddard’s side will play Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Youth Cup after the Addicks knocked out AFC Wimbledon with a 2-0 win on Friday.
