Northampton Town Women joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield were pleased with their side after they progressed to the second round of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Cup with a 7-0 win away to Oadby and Wigston Ladies on Sunday.

The win continued the Cobblers’ perfect start to the season in all competitions.

Speaking after the match, Oldfield said: “I’m very happy with what the girls produced today.

“It was a strong performance and a strong win.

“The quality of the goals was outstanding, and a clean sheet is always nice as well.”

Barry and Oldfield’s side host Bedworth United in the FA Cup on Sunday. The tie will be the Cobblers’ first ever appearance in round one of the competition.

Barry added: “We’re really looking forward to next week.

“We’re playing a team from the league above so we’re probably going into it as underdogs.

“Those are the types of teams that we want to test ourselves against.

“Hopefully we show people that we can compete against those teams.”
