Alex Dicks (pictured) scored a hat-trick as Northampton Town Women progressed to the second round of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Cup with a 7-0 win away to Oadby and Wigston Ladies on Saturday.

The win continued the Cobblers’ perfect start to the season in all competitions.

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made five changes to the team that knocked Tamworth out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Jo Daniel, Sara Wait, Charlie Cooper, Georgia Tear and Dicks all came into the side.

The Cobblers dominated the first half and took an early lead when Dicks latched onto captain Alex Bartlett’s through ball, rounded the goalkeeper and passed into the empty net.

Dicks doubled her tally and the Cobblers’ advantage midway through the opening period, slotting into the bottom corner from Tear’s pass.

The forward completed her hat-trick and scored her 11th first team goal of the season in all competitions when she rounded off a slick passing move before the break.

Cooper added a fourth after the hour, finding the bottom left from Bianca Luttman’s ball forward.

Abbie Brewin’s left-footed shot into the bottom corner, Leah Cudone’s finish from Tear’s flick on and Gracie Williams’ effort from a low Brewin cross sealed the Cobblers’ win late on.

Barry and Oldfield’s side host Bedworth United Ladies in the FA Cup next week. The tie will be the Cobblers’ first ever appearance in round one of the competition.
