Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard says his team ‘played some really good football’ as they progressed to the semi finals of the Northamptonshire FA David Joyce Cup with an 8-0 win away to Wellingborough Town on Tuesday.
Kenny Ndefo scored four having scored a hat-trick in the last round. Ethan Lack and Miguel Ngwa netted braces.
Speaking after the match, Goddard said: “We rotated the squad because some of the boys needed minutes, but we were fairly comfortable throughout.
“We were stronger than we were previously in the competition, but we still needed to put in a professional performance.
“We played some really good football and took all of our goals well.”
The young Cobblers return to EFL Youth Alliance League South East action this weekend when they host third-placed Luton Town. Goddard’s side remain in all three cup competitions.
He added: “We’ve been competitive in cup competitions and league games.
“We talk about areas we could have been better in that would have seen us turn losses into draws and draws in to wins.
“We put in a good performance against Luton last time we played them, and we were unlucky not to come away with a win.
“However, it will be a tough game and we’ll have to be at our best.
“The boys are playing for a starting spot in the games we have coming up, so it’s important that they put in a good performance.”
The youth team host Stockport County in the FA Youth Cup second round next Wednesday before travelling to Luton in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup regional semi final the following Saturday.
