SHANE GODDARD EXCITED FOR THE FUTURE AS UNDER 18S SEASON COMES TO AN END

A look back at the final EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action of the season

17 May 2021

Northampton Town Under 18s Coach Shane Goddard is excited for the future.

Miguel Ngwa scored a hat-trick as the young Cobblers drew 3-3 away to Cambridge United in the final fixture of their EFL Youth Alliance Merit League campaign on Saturday.

After the match, Goddard said: “We’re disappointed that we’ve not won but it wasn’t a bad performance.

“Neither team had anything to play for but it didn’t feel like a game at the end of the season.”

Goddard took charge of the Cobblers youngsters in February and added: “I’m really happy with the boys’ application, the way they’ve trained and the integration of younger players.

“They’ve worked so hard in the second half of the season.

“We might look back at the loss to Stevenage last week because it meant that we couldn’t win the Merit League.

“However, I’m very happy with the group and the players we’ve got coming through.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of this football club.”

The youth team end the Merit League in second place on 10 points after their draw.
