Miguel Ngwa scored a hat-trick as Northampton Town Under 18s drew 3-3 away to Cambridge United on Saturday.
The young Cobblers had a three-goal lead before the hosts came back to earn a point in the second-half.
Coach Shane Goddard (pictured) made two changes to the team that lost to Stevenage last week, as Charlie Woods and Josh Tomlinson replaced James Dadge and Reece Irwin in the line up.
Cambridge started on top. Woods tipped over a shot from the edge of the area and palmed away a low long-range effort early on.
However, the Cobblers youngsters took their chances to have a two-goal lead at the break.
11 minutes in, Ngwa intercepted a pass and beat the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
The Cambridge defence then failed to clear Kieran Watkins-Robinson’s cross and Ngwa unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner seven minutes before the interval.
Early in the second-half, Jack Connor found Ngwa in space, and the winger slotted the ball into the bottom corner for his fourth goal in two matches.
Cambridge responded and pulled a goal back on the hour mark, before scoring again a few minutes later.
With a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, they equalised when the ball deflected through to an attacker who half-volleyed home.
The visitors had an opportunity to win the game late on, but substitute Rueben Wyatt’s drive was headed off the line.
The youth team end the Merit League in second place on 10 points after their draw.
