FOOTBALL & EDUCATION PROGRAMME BEAT EVERTON

Details of Wednesday's action

19 May 2021

Northampton Town's Football & Education programme side welcomed Everton to Moulton on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cobblers started brightly and after just five minutes, Josh Whaler produced a cross for Cairo Taylor who tried a bicycle kick but couldn't quite make the solid connection required and his effort went wide.

The visitors were close to taking the lead with twenty minutes played, but David Sarpong made a superb last ditch slide tackle to deny a certain goal.

Four minutes before the break, Everton were awarded a penalty for a handball in the corner of the area, and the resulting spot kick was calmly dispatched in to the net.

Ben Smith made a good save from a long range effort before there was drama with the very last kick of the first half, when Trent Oakes was fouled and the Cobblers were awarded a penalty of their own.

However, Eddie Panter's spot kick was well saved before Panter then hit the rebound against the post and Jake Webster couldn't quite divert it in.

The Cobblers made the perfect start to the second half. Two minutes in, Cairo Taylor beat his man and pulled the ball back to Josh Whaler who smashed a shot home into the far corner of the net.

Northampton Town had the lead midway through the second half when Trent Oakes showed good pace and Eddie Panter volleyed home from his cross.

Oakes assisted again on 74 minutes when he released Cairo Taylor - Taylor's first shot was saved but he scored from the rebound to give the Cobblers a two goal cushion.

A fourth goal arrived with ten minutes to play and this time provider turned scorer, Ellis Andrews had a header cleared off the line but Oakes was there to follow up.

Ben Smith preserved the advantage with a good save with five minutes to play, before Oakes hit the bar with a dipping 30 yard volley in the last action of the game.
