FOOTBALL & EDUCATION SIDE BEAT ROCHDALE AT PTS ACADEMY STADIUM

A report from Wednesday's action

5 May 2021

On Wednesday afternoon, the Northampton Town Football & Education programme male side took on Rochdale at the PTS Academy Stadium before the summer pitch renovation work gets under way next week.

The Cobblers took the lead on nine minutes, Josh Whaler was fouled on the edge of the Rochdale area, Lewis Crosby delivered the ball in for Tom Walton to apply a close range finish.

It was almost 2-0 on 17 minutes, Cairo Taylor put a teasing ball in to the area for Eddie Panter but his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper.

The Cobblers did double their lead on 34 minutes, Taylor crossing for Jake Webster to smash home.

It was 3-0 before half time, Lewis Crosby with an excellent through ball with Eddie Panter in the right place to prod home.

Ben Smith produced a good save on the hour mark to protect his clean sheet while Crosby was close to a wonder goal moments later but his first time volley was just wide.

One player from either side was cautioned in the closing stages but the Cobblers saw the game out to record a 3-0 victory.

Meanwhile, the Football & Education programme development side beat Crystal Palace 5-0 with four goals from Alfie Doherty and another from Ben Short.
