YOUTH TEAM SEE UNBEATEN RUN COME TO AN END

Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance action

20 March 2021

Northampton Town Under 18s lost 3-2 away to 10-man Luton Town in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League on Saturday.

Josh Tomlinson and Tom Scott scored for the young Cobblers on a grey morning in Bedfordshire.

Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Shane Goddard made one change to the team that beat Milton Keynes Dons, as Tom Scott replaced Liam Cross in the line up.

The Hatters took an early lead. They won the ball in the Cobblers’ half, and a deflected shot from the edge of the area went in.

The hosts were down to 10 men soon after, when Kieran Watkins-Robinson (pictured) was pulled down as he ran through on goal.

Despite being a man down, Luton doubled their advantage within 20 minutes. A defence-splitting pass from a free-kick on the half way line played an attacker in, and he placed the ball home.

The Cobblers pulled one back on the half-hour mark. A corner fell to Watkins-Robinson on the edge of the box, and his shot dropped to Tomlinson who finished from close-range.

The visitors equalised early in the second-half, as Scott curled a 30-yard free-kick into the top-left corner.

The midfielder had two chances to double his tally in the next 10 minutes, but he volleyed over at the back post before firing over from 15 yards.

On the hour mark, the Hatters regained the lead. An attacker ran in on goal from the left and found the bottom corner.

The Cobblers were unable to respond again and their four-match unbeaten run was ended.
