Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Shane Goddard says that it wasn’t his team’s day as Northampton Town Under 18s lost 3-2 away to Luton Town in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League on Saturday.
Josh Tomlinson and Tom Scott scored for the Cobblers youngsters on a grey morning in Bedfordshire.
Speaking after the match, Goddard said: “The boys will be disappointed that we lost the game because we had lots of chances.
“However, they didn’t fold and throw the towel in, and they gave it a good go and worked really hard.
“It just wasn’t our day, and it’s one of those games we’ve got to learn from.”
The loss ended the young Cobblers’ four-match unbeaten run.
Goddard added: “We wanted to continue the run, but it was always going to come to an end at some point.
“It’s about how we bounce back, and I don’t doubt that we will.
“We’ve got a good group, they’ve got great energy and attitude, and they want to learn.”
