SHANE GODDARD LOOKING FOR MORE OF THE SAME FROM UNDER 18S

A look back at the weekend EFL Youth Alliance action

15 March 2021

Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Shane Goddard hopes that there will be “more of the same” from Northampton Town Under 18s after their dominant 6-1 win at home to Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League on Saturday.

Jack Connor scored four and Peter Abimbola and Max Dyche netted the other goals on a windy morning at Moulton College.

Speaking after the match, Goddard said: “Credit to the boys for their performance and attitude.

“We’ve had to chop and change the schedule this week and they’ve coped really well.

“They applied the game-plan brilliantly and there were some top-drawer individual performances.

“Dylan Hill covered every blade of grass and screened everything in front of our back four.

“Jack Connor has had to bide his time and work hard, and he applied everything I wanted from him today.

“That shows what this group is about - they’re desperate to improve and put in good performances.

“It’s really enjoyable when they put in performances like this, and this has to be our base level in terms of how we want to play.”

The dominant victory marked a fantastic start to the young Cobblers’ Merit League campaign.

Goddard added: “Hopefully there’ll be more of the same.

“We’ve got to have half an eye on next season, so we’ll utilise this period to top up the Under 18s that need minutes and also blood in the Under 16s.”

The youth team travel to Luton Town next week. Both meetings in the regular season ended in draws.
