ROBERTS READY FOR THE CHALLENGE

Keeper excited by Sixfields move

23 June 2021

Goalkeeper Liam Roberts is looking forward to a new challenge with Northampton Town after spending the past twelve years at Walsall.

The 6ft 3in stopper signed on at Sixfields on Tuesday and said he can't wait to get started.

“I’m over the moon to be here,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Walsall for making it a seamless transition, they have been incredible to me and my family over the years but I felt like it was the right time for a fresh start.

“I wish Walsall all the best for the future and they will always be a club close to my heart but I’m here now with Northampton Town and I’m here to succeed.

“I want to play as many games as I can and be the best I can be.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Dan Watson, he’s got great enthusiasm to strive to be the best and hopefully he can improve my game as well."

Jon Brady is looking to bring in another goalkeeper with EFL experience to compete with Roberts, and the former Walsall man is more than up for the challenge.

“I know I need to compete for my position but I’m ready to fight for the number one shirt and I want to make it my own. Nothing is ever given in football, you have to earn it and I’m up for the challenge," he said.

“I want to be firing in pre-season to get that shirt and then keep it for the rest of the season.

“This is a new chapter for me, a new Gaffer, new surroundings and I feel it’s a move that will really help me to kick on. I’m really looking forward to progressing and playing for Northampton Town.”
