Northampton Town have signed midfielder Paul Lewis from Tranmere Rovers on a 2 year contract with effect from July 1st.
26 year old Lewis arrives at Sixfields having played 53 times for Tranmere last season, scoring seven goals as the Wirral side made the League 2 play offs.
Prior to that, he started his career at Macclesfield Town before joining Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee. He made just under 100 appearances in a three and a half year stay at the Abbey Stadium.
"We believe Paul will be an excellent signing for us," said manager Jon Brady.
"He fits the bill in terms of what we are looking for in one of our central midfielders.
"He is a good size, a good age, despite being only 26 he already has nearly 250 games under his belt and he played a part in Tranmere reaching the play offs last season.
"He is a goal threat from midfield and he doesn't mind the physical side of the game. He knows the level, he has a great attitude, he gets around the pitch and he can play at a high tempo, which is what we are looking to do.
“Paul is combative and plays with an edge to his game. He is a well rounded midfield player who can play any role in that part of the pitch but he has that ability to time his run in to the penalty area well and ghost in at the right time to be a goal threat.
“His attributes fit with what we were looking for, we feel we are adding a strong player to the group and we are delighted to welcome Paul to the club.
"The signing of Paul means we will no longer be continuing with our interest in Ryan Watson. Ryan has done well for the club and we wish him every success in the next stage of his career.”
